Sophisticatedly Spooky – Ideas to Take Halloween Entertaining to the Next Level

27 Oct 2017, by Susan Alexander Truffles in Event Ideas

The scariest night of the year is upon us once again, and it’s time to get your most impressive (and spookiest) party ideas out! If you’re looking for wow-factor this season, put away the dollar-store decorations and bulk-pack candy. Take a read further for some ideas to spruce up your soiree and add a touch of sophistication.

jack-o-lanterns

Creepy cocktails with flair

Oh no, it wouldn’t be a proper party without some delicious cocktails going around! Try one of these recipes such as ‘The Devil’s on the Rocks’, a Jack-O-Lantern topping, or ‘A Bloody Good Time’ which involves some elderflower, ginger beer and a dash of bitters. Swap glasses for vials and glass jars for extra creative flair.

Healthier food options

To counteract all the candy, let’s take a look at some of the healthier options you might prefer to include on your Halloween list whilst entertaining. Nothing says class more than nourishing foods for your guests.

Try some ‘Snack-O-Lantern’ fruit cups, Graveyard Dip, or traditional ‘Devilled Eggs’. You can put spider legs on just about any snack with carefully sliced grapes, olives, or raisins threaded onto toothpicks. Add ‘Monster Sandwiches’ or sweet potato fries cut into ghostly shapes for a bit of extra theming. For a sweeter snack you could serve Pumpkin Spiced Latte Bites, or fruit dipped in white chocolate painted with ghostly faces.

Classy decorations

The next step to hosting a classy event will be the decorations. You may want to opt for simplicity here, with a black and white theme, bold stripes, splashes of orange, colour, or metallic to add sophistication. Think metallic sprayed pumpkins, soft black and white draping, fairy lights and modern-day patterns. Stay away from the crepe paper and ping pong eyeballs!

It’s a good idea to choose one Halloween theme and run with this for the event. Try just pumpkins and candles, all black, ravens on white sprayed branches, bird cages with candles inside them, or spooky fortune teller décor.

Truffles are a true treat

Nothing says classy menu more than a dash of truffle flavour. How about a truffle and tapenade pizza, truffle pasta, gooey egg and truffle, or truffle risotto? Truffles can also be easily added to create dramatic side dishes and snacks such as pumpkin and truffle oil salad, grilled cheese and truffle sandwiches, or truffle flavoured popcorn. Make it spooky by serving in a themed dish or cone shaped witch’s hat!

If you don’t want to go all-out on the truffle, try a dash of serving oil, truffle infused salt, or truffle butter instead. Your guests are sure to be impressed with the full flavours!

So, weather you’re having a few guests for dinner, or inviting the whole street in for an open-house feast, you’re sure to impress with a truffle-icious treat on the menu or any of the sophisticated ideas above!
